Release Liners for Adhesive Tape Manufacturing

Release liner selection affects how an adhesive tape is coated, converted, wound and applied. The substrate and release coating need to match the adhesive formulation, tape construction and production conditions.

Silicone Release Paper and PET Release Film Options

HENGMU’s release material range includes Glassine, SCK, CCK, PCK and MGK release papers, alongside PET release films.

Paper release liners offer several substrate options for different tape constructions. Selection involves basis weight, thickness, stiffness and the requirements of subsequent coating, laminating and converting operations.

PET release films provide an alternative for applications where film thickness, dimensional stability or transparency are relevant to the process. Our team can discuss paper and film options against your current liner specification and production requirements.

Single-Sided and Double-Sided Release Requirements

The number of silicone-coated sides depends on how the liner contacts the adhesive within the product and wound roll.

For constructions requiring release from one surface, single-sided silicone-coated liners can be evaluated. For double-sided tapes and transfer tapes, the liner configuration should account for adhesive contact on both sides during winding and unwinding.

Where differential release is required, the release level on each side should support the intended separation sequence. Targets need to be defined using agreed adhesive, peel and ageing test conditions.
